This part of Chennai is always crowded and loud, so there is never a dull moment at the shop. We have all sorts of stones and marbles lined up. It’s a family-run kind of feel here. We don't wear suits or have big meetings. Usually, we are just wearing old clothes because moving marble slabs is a dirty job. We get a lot of dust on everything. Customers come in and walk through the aisles looking for a specific shade of white or grey. We help them pull out slabs to look at the veins in the stone. It takes a lot of physical effort to run a place like this. Some days the humidity makes the work feel twice as hard, but we stay at it. We’ve seen the neighborhood change a lot over the years, but we’ve stayed right here. People know us for being straightforward. If a stone has a crack or a flaw, we point it out. There’s no point in hiding it because it’ll just cause trouble later during the laying process. We just want to get the stone out of the yard and into someone's house where it can actually look good. Most days we are too busy to even take a proper lunch break.
