If you walk down Nagathamman Koil Street in Ashok Nagar, you’ll find us at number 2/3. Saif Electronics has been a part of this Chennai neighborhood for quite some time. The shop is usually filled with the smell of soldering iron and old dust from inside television sets. We handle all sorts of electronics that people bring in. Sometimes it’s a remote that stopped working or a music system that’s making a strange noise. My workbench is always covered in tiny screws and wires. It’s a bit of a mess, but I know where everything is. Chennai gets really hot, so the ceiling fan is always running at full speed. People from the nearby houses come in with their gadgets wrapped in plastic bags. I take a look, tell them what’s wrong, and try to fix it as soon as I can. It’s practical work. I don’t use any big words to explain why a circuit board failed. I just show them the burnt part. Ashok Nagar is a nice area, and we have a lot of regular customers who have been coming to us for years. They know we’re just a simple shop. We don’t have a fancy showroom. It’s just a place where things get fixed. I stay busy from the time I open the shutters until the evening when the street gets a bit quieter. It’s a good way to spend the day, working with my hands.
