Raj Masalas

Our business, Raj Masalas, is located at Number 6 on Thiruvalluvar Street. It’s a narrow street and it can be hard to find a parking spot if you’re driving. We’ve been here for quite some time, and the building is starting to show its age a bit. You can smell the spices from a few doors down, which is how most people find us anyway. Inside, it’s mostly bags of raw materials and the grinding equipment we use. It gets quite loud when the machines are running, so we usually have to shout to hear each other. The walls are covered in fine spice dust, no matter how much we try to clean them. We have a small counter at the front for anyone who walks in off the street looking for something specific. Most of our day is spent measuring things out and sealing bags. It’s a messy job, but we don’t mind. Thiruvalluvar Street is a lively place with people always walking to the nearby shops or visiting their neighbors. We have a good relationship with the people around here. Sometimes we share a tea in the afternoon when things slow down a bit. We don't have a big corporate team or anything. It's just a few of us working hard to get the orders out on time. It’s a simple life, focused on the smells and sounds of the spice trade in our little corner.
