About Sm Elangovan Spices – Food & Beverages in Chennai
We operate SM Elangovan Spices out of Unit No 26 in Block IV of the MEPZ. Working in the MEPZ is a bit different because of all the security and the rules you have to follow, but it is a good place for a spice business. Our unit is always full of different smells. Sometimes it is turmeric, other times it is chili or cumin. It can really make you sneeze if you are not used to it. We have machines for grinding and packing the spices. It is a lot of manual work too. We have to check the quality of the raw spices that come in from the farms. If they are not right, we cannot use them for our orders. The floors are always a bit colorful from the spice dust that settles everywhere. We wear aprons and masks most of the time to stay clean. It gets quite warm in Block IV during the summer months, so the fans are always on. We have a small area in the corner where we keep the records and handle the paperwork. It is not very big, just enough for a desk and some old filing cabinets. We focus on getting the shipments ready for the trucks. There is a lot of loading and unloading at the bay. The staff is local and we have been working together for a long time now. We do not have any fancy brochures. We just do our work.
