Our workshop is down on S.N.Chetty Street in Royapuram. It is an old part of town and we have been in this spot, number 265, for a long time. We mostly spend our days cutting metal and welding frames for hospital beds and cupboards. It gets pretty noisy with the machines running, especially in the afternoons. It is not a showroom where everything is shiny and perfect. There is dust from the grinding and stacks of steel pipes leaning against the walls. We started out small, just making a few chairs, but now we do larger orders for clinics. My hands are usually covered in grease or metal shavings by noon. We do not have a big sales team or a fancy office. If you come by, you will probably see us in the back working on a welding job. Royapuram is a busy place, and the street outside is always full of trucks and carts. We just focus on making furniture that does not break. The floor is concrete and the roof is high to let the heat out. We do not spend money on advertising because people around here just know us by word of mouth. It is a simple business. We get the steel, we cut it, we join it, and then we send it out to whoever needs it. Some days are long, but seeing a finished bed ready for a hospital is a good feeling.
