Chengalpatu Hospital

If you are looking for us in Chennai, we are over at 106 Vellala Street. It is in the Kodambakkam area which everyone knows is always packed with traffic. Our building isn't the biggest hospital you’ve ever seen but it’s been standing here for quite some time. The front entrance is right on the street so you can’t really miss it. Inside, it smells like cleaning fluids and medicine, which I guess is what you’d expect. We have a few wards and the doctors usually come in early before the heat gets too bad. The nurses are always rushing around with clipboards and trays. Sometimes the waiting area gets very crowded, especially in the mornings when the outpatient clinic is open. People sit on the metal benches and talk loudly or look at their phones. We deal with all sorts of things, from small scrapes to people who need to stay for a few days. The pharmacy is just tucked away in the corner there. It gets noisy with the horns honking outside on Vellala Street but once you’re in the back rooms it’s a bit quieter. We don't have fancy uniforms or a big reception desk with a computer for everything. It’s mostly paper files and people knowing each other by name. Being in Kodambakkam means we see a lot of local families who have been coming to this spot for years. It is just a regular place doing its work day by day for the community.
