Poojaa Stones India is over at 192 Burma Colony in the Pallavakkam Village area of Perungudi. It’s a bit of a tucked-away spot, but once you find us, you’ll see we have quite a bit of stone sitting around. The area is mostly residential and small shops, so we try not to make too much noise, though cutting stone is never really quiet. The floors in the workshop are almost always wet because we use water to keep the blades cool and the dust down. We spend our days measuring slabs and marking them out with chalk. The commute into Perungudi can be a bit of a crawl during rush hour, so most of us try to get in early to start the machines. We have a small yard where the delivery tempos park, and it can be a tight squeeze getting them in and out of Burma Colony. The walls of our place are lined with different samples, some have been there for years and have a bit of grime on them. It’s not a showroom where you’d wear nice shoes, it’s a working yard. We talk to a lot of contractors and some homeowners who are just looking for a piece of granite for their kitchen. We just show them what’s in the stacks and help them load it up. It’s honest work and keeps us busy from Monday to Saturday without much fuss.
