Sri Meenakshi Textiles

If you know Old Washermenpet, you know how tight some of the lanes can be. We are at No. 2/3 Singara Garden, specifically on the 3rd Lane. It’s a place with a lot of history, and you can feel it in the air. Sri Meenakshi Textiles is located right in the middle of all that. The building is old, and the rooms have high ceilings that help a bit with the heat, but it still gets stuffy when we have a lot of stock piled up. Working in this part of the city means dealing with narrow streets where even a small cart can block the whole way. We’re used to it, though. Every morning, we unlock the heavy doors and start moving things around to make space for the day’s work. The floors are concrete and a bit worn down from years of heavy rolls being dragged across them. We don't have a showroom or anything like that. It’s just a place where the textile work happens. You’ll see bits of thread on the floor and stacks of fabric wrapped in plastic waiting to go out. Most of us have been working in this area our whole lives, so we know the neighbors and the rhythm of the lane. It's noisy, it’s crowded, and it’s a lot of hard work, but this is where we do what we do every single day.
