Baba Time Centre

Baba Time Centre is located at No:90 Besant Road in the Ice House area of Royapettah. It’s a busy part of town and the noise from the street is always there in the background. We have clocks on the walls that don't always show the same time because some need new batteries or a bit of fixing. People bring us their watches when they stop working or the glass gets cracked. It’s tedious work squinting at tiny gears and springs all day. My eyes get tired by the evening but I’ve been doing this for a long time now. The counter is wooden and has a lot of scratches from years of use. We don't bother fixing the scratches because they show how much work has been done here. We have a small back room where the spare parts are kept in old tins and glass jars. It looks like a mess to anyone else but I know exactly where the gaskets for a specific brand are hidden. We don't have a website or a social media manager. People just know we are here because of the sign outside and the fact that we’ve been here forever. Sometimes we have to tell someone a watch can't be fixed and that’s the hard part of the job. We just try to be honest about it and offer what help we can.
