Shri Kota Stones

We have been here at No 81 Poonamallee High Road for quite a long time now. Most people know the spot right across from Pillar 33. It gets pretty loud with the traffic coming off the road, but we just keep at it. Working with kota stone is heavy business. Every day there is a lot of lifting and moving slabs around the yard. We aren't doing anything fancy here. Just unloading trucks and making sure the stone is ready for whoever comes by. Sometimes the dust gets everywhere, especially when it’s windy. My brother and I usually handle the stock. We started with just a small pile and it grew over the years. It’s a simple setup near Perumal Koil Street. People stop their bikes and ask about the different finishes we have. We try to keep things organized but a stone yard is always a bit messy by nature. The sun hits the front of the shop in the afternoon and it gets warm. We mostly just focus on the kota stone because that is what we know. If someone needs a few pieces or a whole truckload, we manage it. There isn't a big office or anything like that. Just the stones and the road. We’ve seen the pillar construction change the whole look of the street. It’s just how it goes in this part of town. We stay busy enough with the regular walk-ins. Some people come from far away just because they heard we have the right kind of blue or yellow kota.
