Needamangalam Collective Farming Farmer'S Producer Company Limited is based at 512 Athaniyar Street in Edamelaiyur-1. We are in the Nidamangalam area of Thiruvarur. This is the heart of the rice country in Tamil Nadu, and most of us here have been working in the paddy fields since we were kids. We formed this collective because the costs of running a farm were just getting too high for one person to handle. By coming together at our place in Edamelaiyur, we can share the burden. We don't have any big marketing people or corporate bosses telling us what to do. It’s just us farmers sitting around and deciding what’s best for our own land and our own families. We spend a lot of time dealing with the water from the canals and making sure everyone gets their fair share. The office on Athaniyar Street is where we meet to sign papers and figure out who is growing what. It’s a noisy, busy place during the harvest season with tractors and trucks moving around. We aren't looking to become some huge corporation; we just want to make sure the local farmers don't get left behind. We help with getting the right seeds and sometimes we rent out machinery to the members who can't afford their own. It’s a very practical arrangement born out of necessity. We’ve been here for generations and we plan to stay, working together as a group. It is just the way we get things done here.
