You’ll find Naren Instruments & Engineering Company on Thirumangalam Road in Villivakkam. The address can be a bit confusing because of the new and old numbers, but we are at New No.25. It’s a busy street with lots of shops and houses all mixed together. We have a small workshop here that’s been our base for years. There are tools everywhere, and the smell of grease and metal is pretty much permanent. We like it that way, though. It feels like a place where things actually get made and fixed. Most of our day is spent at the lathes or the assembly benches. It’s a small team, and we all have our specific roles. Sometimes the younger guys play music while they work, which keeps the energy up. We don't have a big storefront with glass windows. It's more of a walk-in gate that leads straight to the floor. People in Villivakkam know us by now. We don't really do any advertising. Most of our work comes from people just knowing we are here on the road. It gets pretty humid in the afternoons, so we have a few big fans going to keep the air moving. It’s just a regular engineering shop doing our bit every day without any fuss. The floor gets swept every evening, but by morning it’s covered in metal shavings again. That’s just the nature of the trade. We keep some old chairs by the entrance for anyone who needs to wait.
