Our shop is tucked away in Padi, right on Kubera Ganapathy Street. It’s been at No 1/1 for a good bit of time now, and the neighbors all know us by name. If you know the Mathiyazhagan Nagar area, you’ve probably walked right past our door while heading to the market. It’s a bit noisy because of the machines running all day long. We deal with tools and various engineering bits that people in the neighborhood need for their own small projects or repair jobs. It gets dusty in here, and there is usually some oil on the floor, but that’s just how a real tool shop works. We aren't trying to look like a clean showroom you'd find in a mall. The guys here have calloused hands and they really know their way around a lathe or a grinder. When a customer comes in looking for something specific, we usually have to dig through the back bins to find it. It’s not all organized like a grocery store shelf. We’ve got piles of metal and drawers full of rusted bolts and shiny new ones mixed together. People come to us when they can't find what they need at the big retail chain stores. We like being in Padi. It’s a working-class spot and everyone looks out for each other. Sometimes we just stand outside the shop and chat with the tea seller when things are slow. We don't do much advertising at all.
