Rainbow Tiles

If you come down Narayana Mudali Street, you’ll find us at number 69. It’s a very narrow street and it’s always packed with people and carts. We are right near the mosque, so we hear the prayers throughout the day. It’s a busy atmosphere. We sell all kinds of tiles. The shop is filled with boxes stacked up high. Sometimes it’s hard to move around in there. We spend the day helping people pick out patterns for their bathrooms or kitchens. It gets quite dusty because of the cardboard and the tile edges. We don't have a lot of space for a fancy display, so we just show people what’s in the boxes. The neighborhood is loud and hectic, but we like it that way. You get to meet all sorts of characters on this street. We’ve been here long enough that we know the other shopkeepers well. We drink a lot of tea while we wait for deliveries. Sometimes the delivery trucks can't even get down the street because it's too tight. We have to carry the boxes by hand or use small trolleys. It’s physically demanding work, especially when the weather is humid. We just do our thing every day, selling tiles and chatting with the neighbors near the mosque. It’s a crowded spot but it has been home for a long time.
