Masala Bazzar

Our shop, Masala Bazzar, is right on OMR Road in Perungudi at 1/98. It is a very busy part of town with all the IT offices and new buildings going up everywhere. We are a bit different from the big glass buildings around us. We focus on traditional spices and powders that people need for their daily cooking. The shop isn't very large, but we pack a lot into it. You can find almost any spice you need if you look through the containers on the shelves. We spend our mornings measuring out portions and sealing the bags. The traffic on OMR Road is constant, so there is always a bit of noise and dust coming in from the front door. We have a small counter where we sit and wait for customers to come in. Most of the people who live in the apartments nearby know us by now. They like that they can get fresh stuff instead of the old packets from the big stores. We try to keep the prices fair because we know how expensive living in this part of Chennai can be. It is just me and my cousin working here most days. We don't have a big marketing plan. We just open the shutters, sweep the entrance, and start our day. It is a lot of hard work but it keeps us going. We hope to keep this little corner of the road smelling like good food for a long time. The streetlights outside flicker at night.
