We are tucked away in Seven Wells, right on Acharappan Street. If you know Broadway, you know how packed it gets with all the shops and people moving around. Madrasi Cutting Chai Llp is based out of No 4, and it’s usually a bit of a squeeze getting through the market area during the afternoon rush. It’s noisy and dusty, but that’s just Kothawal Bazaar for you. We spend our days mostly brewing tea and making sure there’s enough for everyone who stops by. It’s not a fancy setup. We have the usual tea glasses, the stoves going, and plenty of milk crates piled up. Sometimes the rain makes the street a mess and customers have to jump over puddles to get to us. We’ve got a small team and we all just pitch in where needed. One person handles the stove, someone else does the cleaning, and we try to keep the supply of chai steady. It’s a simple operation really. No one wears a suit here. We are mostly in our regular clothes just trying to get through the day's work. It gets hot near the burners, especially in the Chennai summer, but we’re used to it by now. We don't do anything special, just keep the kettle on and hope the electricity doesn't go out. It’s just a basic chai spot in a busy part of town.
