Leo Coffee Grinding Works

We are right on South Mada Street in Mylapore, which is a very busy spot near the temple. If you walk by in the morning, the first thing you’ll notice is the smell of the beans being ground. It’s a strong scent that stays in your clothes all day. Our shop is quite small, and we’ve got these old grinding machines that make a lot of noise when they are running. We spend most of our time weighing out coffee powder and putting it into bags for the people who stop by on their way to work. It is a very simple process, but it takes a lot of attention to get it right. Mylapore has a lot of tradition, and we’ve been part of the street for a long time. You can hear the temple bells from our front door, and there are always people walking around in the mornings. We don't really have a place for people to sit, it’s mostly just a counter and the machines in the back. The floor is usually covered in a thin layer of coffee dust by noon. It’s hard work on your feet all day, but we are used to it by now. We just focus on keeping the machines running and making sure everyone gets what they came for. It is a humble little shop and that is how we like it.
