Kunnam Granite Works

We spend most of our time at Kunnam Granite Works over here at Sankaralaya on Malony Road. If you know T. Nagar, you know it gets pretty busy around here. We’ve been handling stones for a while now. It’s heavy work, but someone has to do it. The office is at number 24. Most days it’s just us dealing with orders and making sure the slabs get where they need to go. Granite is a tricky thing because every piece looks different. You can't just pick one out of a book and expect it to be exactly like that. We try to keep things moving. Sometimes the phones don't stop ringing and other times it's quiet enough to actually hear the traffic outside. People come in looking for stuff for their houses or maybe a bigger project. We just show them what’s available in the yard or what’s coming in next. It isn't a fancy setup, just a place where we get things done. T. Nagar has changed a lot since we started, but we’re still in the same spot. If you’re driving down Malony Road, you might miss the entrance if you aren't looking. We have samples lying around and plenty of dust, which is just part of the granite business. It’s hard on the hands and the back, but seeing a finished floor makes it feel like a real job. We just keep at it.
