Kumbakonam Filter Coffee Private Limited is located in Velachery at No 35, 3J, inside the Rathna Apartments. We are right on the Velachery Main Road. It is a very busy area, and the noise from the traffic never really stops. We operate out of a small unit in the apartment building, so it is a bit of a tight squeeze with all the sacks of coffee beans. The whole floor smells like roasted coffee, which most of the neighbors like, but a few complain when we are grinding late at night. We focus on the traditional filter coffee blend. It’s not a fast process. We roast the beans and then grind them down to the right texture. It is just a few of us working here. We don't have fancy uniforms or a reception desk. It is just a room full of coffee bags and a couple of machines. Sometimes the rain in Velachery gets so bad that the road floods and we can't get any deliveries in or out for a day or two. We just sit and drink coffee until the water goes down. We aren't trying to compete with the big brands. We just want to make the kind of coffee that people around here grew up drinking. It’s a simple business, and we keep things basic and honest. We just do the work and send the bags out to whoever needs them.
