Fruitmarx

If you go to the Anna Fruit Market in Koyembadu, look for stall T/A 71. That’s where we are. Fruitmarx is basically just a stall in a very big, very loud market. We get there long before the sun comes up because that’s when the trucks start arriving. It’s a messy, hectic environment with a lot of shouting and people pushing carts. We wouldn’t have it any other way though. We spend our time unloading fruit, checking if it’s ripe, and haggling over prices. There’s no air conditioning here, just the smell of oranges and mangoes and a lot of dust. We don’t have a corporate structure or human resources department. It’s just a few of us working together to sell what we have. Some days the market is so crowded you can barely move, and other days it’s a bit slower. We don’t write reports or have long meetings. Our meetings happen while we’re standing around a crate of apples. Koyembadu is the heart of the trade here, and being at stall 71 puts us right in the middle of it. It’s hard on the back and the feet, and we usually go home exhausted. But there is something good about seeing the bins empty out by the end of the day. We aren't a fancy company with a big office. We are just fruit sellers in a busy market, trying to do our bit and get back home for some rest.
