Kishore Cardamom Plant

Kishore Cardamom Plant is located over at Block 10 at 89 Union Road in Nallambur. Maduravoyal is where we spend our days, and you can usually tell you're close to the plant by the smell of the spices in the air. It’s a strong, earthy scent that sticks to your clothes. The building itself is quite functional. We have the drying area and the sorting tables where we spend most of our hours. It’s not a quiet place because of the fans and the sorting machinery, but it’s a rhythm we’ve gotten used to. We don't have a big office with carpets; it’s mostly concrete floors that are easy to sweep. We get the cardamom in sacks, and then the long process of grading them begins. We look at the size and the color, making sure the bad ones are tossed out. It’s tedious work, and your hands get a bit stained after a while. We aren't a huge corporation. We’re just a local plant where people from the neighborhood come to work. We have our tea breaks together outside when the weather is nice. Sometimes the trucks are late arriving because of the traffic on Union Road, but that’s just how it goes. We don't worry about being fancy. We just focus on the cardamom and making sure the bags are weighed correctly before they are sent off. It’s honest, hard work and we’ve been at it for several years now.
