Kaboni Lokenath Rice Mill

Our place, Kaboni Lokenath Rice Mill, is at number 19 on Navaneetha Ammal Street, right in the Aiyavoo Colony area of Amanjikarai. It is a fairly old part of the neighborhood, and the streets can be a bit narrow for the bigger trucks. Inside the mill, it is usually quite loud because of the machines running. The air always has that specific scent of husks and processed grain. We have been here for some time now, and we know most of the people on the street. It is a family-run sort of place where we do not worry too much about appearances. The floor is often covered in a fine layer of dust from the milling, and we are constantly sweeping it up. We have a small group of workers who handle the sacks and watch over the machines to make sure nothing jams up. It is a lot of repetitive work, but it is what we do. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to pause everything, which gives us a chance to have some tea. People from the colony often walk by and peek in. We are not a huge company, just a local mill serving the immediate area. The work is steady, and we try to get everything bagged up before the sun goes down. It is a noisy, busy place, but it feels right to be part of the Amanjikarai community. We usually close up once the last truck is loaded and gone.
