Indian Terrain

Working at the Ampa Skywalk Mall is quite a different experience than being on a regular street. Our shop is at 122, right on the mall road near Nelson Manickam Road in Aminjikarai. The traffic outside on Nelson Manickam Road is almost always a nightmare, so we’re glad to be inside where it’s a bit calmer. The mall gets really packed on the weekends with people coming for the movies or just to walk around in the AC. We spend a lot of time making sure the displays look okay, though they always seem to get messed up by the end of the day. It’s a fast-paced environment. You meet all sorts of people from all over Chennai. Aminijikarai is a central spot, so it’s easy for people to drop by. We’ve got a good team here that just handles the daily tasks like tagging items and helping people find their sizes. It’s not a quiet job. There’s always music from the mall corridors and the sound of people talking. We don’t really do anything fancy. Just a lot of work to keep the store running smoothly. Some days are longer than others, especially during sale seasons when the mall stays open late. It’s a lot of standing and moving around, but you get used to it. It’s just our daily life here at Skywalk. We eat our lunch in the back room and wait for the evening rush to start.
