Our place is at No 616 on Poonamallae High Road. If you are near Vaishnava College in Arumbakkam, you’ve probably walked right past us without thinking twice. We deal with granite and stones, which is heavy work, to be honest. The yard gets dusty and the noise of the cutters is something you just get used to after a few weeks. It’s not the cleanest job in the world. We’ve got stacks of slabs everywhere, so you have to watch where you walk when you come inside the gates. The heat in Chennai doesn't help much when we are loading trucks out front. My uncle started this a long time ago and we just kept it going. We don't do much advertising or anything. People usually find us because their neighbor told them where we were or they saw the trucks. The traffic on the high road is always a bit of a nightmare, especially during the rush hour when the college students are all heading home. Sometimes we have to wait until late at night to move the bigger pieces of stone just so we don't block the whole road. It is just a regular business, trying to make sure the cuts are straight and the slabs don't crack. We spend a lot of time just moving things from one side of the shed to the other. It's hard on the back, but it's what we do.
