Equine Hospital

Working here at the Madras Race Club is definitely different from a regular office job. We are right on 5 Furlong Road in Guindy. The Equine Hospital is where we spend all our hours. It’s mostly about the horses, obviously. They come in and out from the tracks and the stables nearby all the time. It smells like hay and old wood most of the time around here. We don't have a lot of time for sitting around or drinking coffee. There’s always a horse that needs looking at or something in the stalls to clean up. Maduvinkarai is a busy part of Guindy, but once you get inside the club grounds, it feels a bit separate from the city noise and traffic. We’ve got the tracks right there. It’s a practical place. We don't have fancy waiting rooms for people because our patients are animals. It gets dusty and hot in the summer, but that’s just part of the daily work. Most of the staff have been around horses their whole lives. We just get on with it. You see the same faces every morning when the sun comes up. It’s a lot of physical work, lifting things and moving around the stalls. We aren't doing any big marketing pushes or anything. The horse owners know where we are. 5 Furlong Road is easy enough to find if you know the area at all. We just keep the place running day by day without making much of a fuss.
