Chennai Juice Shop

Our shop is located at 98 Sarvamangala Colony, right in the Manthope Colony area of Ashok Nagar. It’s a busy little corner of Chennai. We spend our whole day dealing with fruit, ice, and sugar. Chennai Juice Shop is a name that tells you exactly what we do, but it doesn't tell you how sticky the floors get by noon. We’re constantly washing glasses and cutting up whatever is in season. The fans are always running, but it still gets hot during the summer months. Ashok Nagar is a crowded place, and our shop is right in the thick of it. We don't have a lot of space for people to sit down, so most folks just grab their drink and stand on the sidewalk. We’ve got crates of oranges and pineapples stacked up near the back. It’s a messy job sometimes, and our hands are usually wet from either juice or water. We’ve been here long enough that we know most of the people who walk past on their way to the bus stop. We don't have any fancy menus with descriptions; we just write what we have on a board. It’s a small family-run type of place. We don't think about things like brand identity. We just think about making sure the fruit is fresh and the ice hasn't melted. It’s a noisy, busy, and sweet-smelling life here in the colony. Sometimes we run out of a certain fruit by mid-afternoon if it’s been a particularly hot day. We just tell the customers we’re sorry and offer them something else. There’s no big corporate policy for that, we just talk to people like they are our neighbors, because most of them are. It is a bit chaotic but it’s our chaos.
