Av Hospital is sitting at No 172 Solaiyappan Street, right in the heart of Old Washermenpet. This is a part of the city that never really seems to stop moving. The hospital itself is a practical kind of place, built to handle the daily needs of the people living around here. It’s not a shiny new facility, but it’s sturdy and it’s been here for a good long time. When you come in, you’ll see the staff busy with paperwork or talking to people in the waiting area. The rooms are basic and we try to keep them as tidy as possible despite how many people come in and out every day. Solaiyappan Street is always full of life, and you can hear the sounds of the neighborhood even when you’re deep inside the building. We’ve got a mix of young and old staff members who all live within a few miles of the place. We don't spend much time on fancy talk; we just get to work as soon as we arrive in the morning. Sometimes the air conditioning struggles with the heat, but we make do. It’s a local spot where people come because they know where we are and they’ve been here before. We just focus on keeping the doors open and being available for whoever walks in from the street needing some help with their health. It is hard work, but we are used to the pace by now.
