If you're looking for us, Astana Concrete Gallery is tucked away in the Platinum Apartments over in Anna Nagar West. It’s at 59/1, which can be a little tricky to find if it’s your first time visiting this part of the neighborhood. We work with concrete, which sounds plain, but we see it differently here. The space is filled with samples and heavy pieces we've cast ourselves. There’s usually dust on the floor because that’s just how it goes when you’re working with these kinds of materials. We don't wear suits or have a fancy reception area. Most of the time, our hands are a bit grey from the mix. We spend a lot of our hours experimenting with different textures and shapes to see what holds up best. Some things we make turn out great, and others end up in the scrap pile. It’s a process of trial and error that we’ve been doing for a while now. Neighbors occasionally peek in to see what’s going on because we aren't your typical apartment-based setup. The light in Anna Nagar West is good in the afternoons, which helps when we're trying to check the finish on a new slab. It’s a small team, and we mostly just talk shop and drink coffee between tasks. We aren't doing anything revolutionary, just making things out of stone and sand. It is a bit messy, but it is our way.
