Asst Engineer

You can find me at the Wimco Old Quarters in Thiruvottiyur, Chennai. I’m the Asst Engineer here, and my office is in A Block, No. 504. It’s an older building, which gives it a bit of character, though the stairs can be a bit of a climb on a hot Chennai afternoon. M. Kumar is the name on the door. It’s a very practical workspace. We have large tables for spreading out the big drawings and plenty of shelves for the technical manuals that we have to consult all the time. Thiruvottiyur is quite an industrial area, so there is always a sense of work happening all around us. You can hear the distant sounds of the city and the nearby activities throughout the day. The quarters have been here a long time, and everyone has their own routine. My routine involves a lot of checking and re-checking data. It’s not the kind of place where you’ll find polished floors or fancy receptionists. We just have a few chairs for visitors and a lot of coffee cups. The heat in Chennai can be quite something, so the windows stay open to catch whatever breeze comes off the coast, though it’s mostly just warm air. It’s a simple setup for someone doing engineering work. We focus on the details of the projects we are given. It’s honest work and we stay busy with it every single day, just trying to get things finished.
