Arvind Trading Co. is tucked away at No. 19, Perumal Koil Garden, 2nd Lane in Chennai. If you know the area, you know how narrow the lanes can get around here. It makes it a bit of a challenge for the delivery vans, but we’ve figured out the best times for them to come by without blocking the whole street. The building is an old one, and it gets quite warm in the afternoons. We have a couple of ceiling fans that stay on all day to keep the air moving. Most of our work is just keeping track of the trading side of things. We have stacks of invoices and old registers piled up on the shelves. It’s not a corporate office with glass walls; it’s more like a lived-in space where work actually happens. We’ve got a small team, and we all pitch in with whatever needs doing, whether it’s moving boxes or talking to suppliers. Sometimes the noise from the street is a bit much, but you get used to it after a week or two. We don’t do a lot of advertising because word of mouth usually brings people to our door. We just focus on getting the daily tasks done. There’s a tea shop around the corner where we get our morning snacks. It’s a busy life but we’re used to it by now and wouldn't have it any other way.
