Soni Marble & Granites

If you head down Poonamali High Road in Arumbakkam, you will find us at No. 557. It is a noisy part of town with all the traffic passing by, but we have been here quite some time. We deal with marble and granite slabs all day. They are heavy and take a lot of work to move around. Our shop isn't a showroom with soft lights. It's more of a place where the stone is the main thing you see. We have different colors and types leaning against the walls. Some are smooth, some are rough. We spend a lot of time helping people look through the stacks to find a piece that looks okay to them. Sometimes we get a bit of water on the floor when we are cleaning the stones so you can see the patterns better. It’s a messy business sometimes. Dust from the stone gets on everything, including our clothes. We aren't doing anything complicated here, just selling stone for floors and counters. People come in from the neighborhood or drive over because they know the spot. We stay open pretty late most days. It’s just the way it is when you run a small business in Arumbakkam. The traffic outside never seems to stop, and neither do we really. We just keep moving the slabs and talking to whoever walks in the door. It’s honest work and it keeps us busy.
