About Amma International – Agriculture & Farming in Chennai
Working out of the Anna Fruit Market in Koyambedu is a bit of a chaotic experience every single day. We are located at T/f- 91 and T/e- 83, which can be hard to find if you aren't used to how the market is laid out. It’s a massive place, and by four in the morning, the noise is already loud enough to wake anyone up. There are trucks everywhere, and people are always rushing around with handcarts full of crates. We spend a lot of time just managing the space we have. The floors are usually a bit damp from the misting or the rain, and there is always that smell of ripening fruit in the air. It’s not a glamorous job, and our office space is basically just a corner with some old ledgers and a phone that rings way too often. We deal with a lot of different people, from truck drivers who haven't slept in twenty hours to buyers looking for a bargain. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to use flashlights to see the inventory, but we just keep going anyway. It’s just how things work in a place like this. We don't really have time for fancy talk or big plans. We just focus on getting the crates moved and making sure the numbers match up at the end of the shift.
