This shop in Arumbakkam has been my second home for many years. It isn’t a huge place, but it serves the local crowd well enough. I spend most of my time behind the counter, peering into the backs of watches. The light isn't always great in here, but I've got a good lamp that helps me see. People in Arumbakkam are always on the move, so they come in for quick things like a new battery or to get a link removed from a metal band. I've seen watches that have been through everything, dropped in water or scratched up on the road. I try to make them look okay again. The shelves are filled with different brands, some old and some new. I don't really follow the trends much, I just like the mechanics of how things work. It gets a bit noisy outside with the traffic, but once I put my loupe on, I don't notice much. My hands are still steady even after all this time. I keep a stack of old newspapers in the corner and a radio playing low to keep me company. It’s a quiet life, fixing one watch at a time. I don't have a big sign or anything, just the name above the door. Most customers are regulars who live nearby. They know I'll give it to them straight if a watch isn't worth fixing. It's just a regular watch shop doing regular work for the people here. We stay busy enough.
