You will find Abhilash Cool Bar right on Valluvarkottam High Road in Nungambakkam. Being at number 183, we are basically opposite the park, which means a lot of people wander over when they get tired of walking. Chennai stays pretty hot most of the year, so the fridge here never really gets a break. We spend a good chunk of the day just loading bottles of soda and water into the coolers. The shop itself is small, and there’s usually a bit of a mess with empty crates stacked in the corner. Sometimes the power goes out, and we have to worry about the ice cream melting, but that’s just how things go around here. You’ll mostly find us wiping down the counters or helping someone find a specific brand of juice. The noise from the traffic on Valluvarkottam High Road is constant, so conversations are usually quick and loud. Students from nearby and people working in the offices around Nungambakkam stop by for a quick cold drink or a packet of chips. We don't do anything fancy with the decor; it’s just plain walls and metal racks. The floor gets a bit muddy during the monsoon, and we’re always sweeping out the sand. It’s a busy spot, and there’s always something to do, whether it’s checking the milk supply or making sure we haven't run out of straws. We just try to keep the drinks cold and the shelves full for whoever stops by.
