Super Brick Factory

Our place, Super Brick Factory, is located right at the Uchagram More in the Galsi area of Burdwan. It is a busy little junction, and there is always something going on. We have been working this land for a while now. The process starts with the raw earth we bring in. It takes a lot of effort to get the consistency right before we can even think about putting them in the kiln. The heat from the fire is intense, especially during the summer months in Burdwan. We all sweat a lot and drink jugs of water throughout the day. The workers are mostly local guys from the surrounding villages. We don't have a fancy corporate structure. If someone needs to talk to the person in charge, they just walk up to the small hut near the entrance. Sometimes the bricks don't come out perfect, maybe they get a bit overcooked or the shape is slightly off, but that is part of the manual process. We stack them in high piles that look like red walls across the yard. The dust at Uchagram More can be a bit much when the wind picks up. We just pull our scarves tighter and keep moving the carts. It is a basic way of life, centered around the fire and the clay. We don't ask for much, just for the rain to stay away while the bricks are drying so we can finish the batch.
