G. S. Bricks

We are set up in Sehara Bazar, which is in the Khandaghosh area of East Burdwan. Being near the market means there is always someone moving around. The ground here is often muddy if the season is wet, which makes moving the bricks a bit of a challenge. We have been working out of this spot for quite some time now. The stacks of red bricks take up most of the yard space. We have a small hut where we keep the papers and take our tea breaks. It gets quite hot in the summer, and the work is physically demanding. We do not use any high-tech equipment, just the usual tools and our own strength. People from the nearby villages come here when they are putting up a new wall or fixing a house. We know the roads around East Burdwan pretty well because we have to coordinate where everything is going. Sometimes the deliveries are late because the roads are narrow or the weather is bad. That is just part of living and working out here. We do not pretend to be anything we are not. We are just a local brickyard trying to keep up with the demand. The days are long, and we are usually tired by the time the sun goes down. But it feels good to see the bricks we made being used in the buildings around the bazar. We just take it one day at a time.
