Rama Bricks

Our place is located in Rayan Gram Panchayat, over in the Purba Burdwan district. We’re quite close to the Mbc Polytechnic College, so we see a lot of students walking by our gate. The brick business is something our family has been doing for a long time. It’s hard, physical work, especially when the humidity gets high in the summer. Our yard is big and open to the elements. We have piles of clay and long rows of bricks drying out in the sun. It’s not a quiet place by any means. There is always the sound of a tractor or people moving heavy stuff around. We aren't much for formalities or fancy talk here. If someone comes by, we just talk to them plainly and directly. We don't use a lot of technical terms. We just know how a good, solid brick should feel in your hand. Being near the college gives the whole area a bit of youthful energy. Sometimes we get people asking about how the bricks are made. We just show them the kilns and the process. It’s a straightforward way of working that hasn't changed much over the years. The road can get a bit muddy when it rains, which makes moving the heavy loads a little tricky. We just deal with it as it comes. It’s a family-style environment here. Most of us have been working together for years. We just focus on keeping the supply steady.
