Bhagirathi Bricks Field

You can find our brick field in Nibhuji Bazar, which is located over in Kalna. We are quite close to the Kalna Court, so it’s a landmark that almost everyone in town knows well. Making bricks is what we do all year round, except during the months when the heavy rains make it impossible to work the mud. The ground here is good for clay, which is why our family has stayed in this specific spot for so long. It’s a very basic and honest operation. We have the molding area, the drying ground, and the big kilns where the bricks get fired until they are hard. My brothers and I run the place together without any corporate structure or fancy titles. We just show up early in the morning and see what needs to be done. Some days we are managing the workers in the field, other days we are talking to local contractors who need a few thousand bricks for a new house. The red dust from the brick field gets on everything we own, but that’s just part of the job for us. We don’t do any big marketing or advertising. Most of our customers come to us because they’ve known our family name for a long time. Kalna is a growing place, and we’ve seen many new buildings go up using our materials. It makes us feel useful to the community. We don't have any big plans to grow huge.
