Okara Kisan Unnati Producer Company Limited is set up over at Gita Devi’s place on the road between Badobara Kalan and Shamshabad. If you are driving down that way, you’ve probably passed us. We are just a bunch of local farmers who decided it was time to work as one group instead of everyone doing their own thing. It is much easier to buy what we need when we do it together. Most of the folks involved live right here in the neighborhood. We don't have any staff in suits or anything. It's usually just a couple of us sitting on plastic chairs trying to figure out the best time to sell our produce. The weather around here can be pretty rough on the crops, so we talk a lot about what works and what doesn't. Some of us have been farming since we were kids and others are just taking over from their fathers. We don't use any complicated systems. It is mostly just about trust and knowing the people you work with every day. Sometimes we have meetings where everyone talks at once, but we eventually get things decided. We are just trying to keep the farms running and make sure there is enough for the next season. It's honest work and we don't try to make it sound like more than it is. We’re just here on the road, doing the work that needs to be done every single day.
