Hariyali Harit Krishak Producer Company Limited is based out of Sosokhurd, right at Kishun Mahto’s house. Kishun is the son of the late Janki Mahto, so most folks around Gola know the family. We aren't fancy people. Our office is basically a room with some sturdy tables and a lot of records. Being in a place like Sosokhurd means we are close to the actual farms, which makes sense for what we do. The air is a bit cleaner out here than in the city, though the roads can be a real pain when the monsoon rains start. We spend a lot of time drinking tea and discussing how the local harvest is looking. It’s a producer company, so it’s really about the farmers coming together. We don’t have a website that works all the time or a big marketing team. It’s just us and the local growers trying to figure things out. Sometimes the power goes out in the afternoon and we just sit outside on the porch to finish our work. People walk by and say hello, and that’s how we like it. It’s a very local operation and we don’t pretend to be anything else. We handle the paperwork and the logistics as best as we can. It’s honest work and it keeps us busy from morning until the sun goes down.
