Pandit Nehru School is right here in Ward No. 7 in Nokha. It’s a pretty quiet part of Bikaner, though it gets dusty when the wind picks up. The school itself is a simple building, nothing too fancy to look at from the outside. We have been here for a good while now. Every morning, the street fills up with kids walking or riding their cycles to get to class. You can hear the bell ringing across the neighborhood, which is how most of us keep track of the time. The classrooms are basic, just desks and boards, but they do the job. During the summer, it gets incredibly hot, so we try to keep the fans running as much as the power allows. We don't have a huge playground, but the kids find space to run around during their break. The staff are mostly local people who have lived in Bikaner for years. We all know the families of the students, which makes things feel a bit more like a community than just a place of work. It’s just a regular school day here, with teachers talking and kids trying to finish their lessons before the afternoon heat becomes too much. We aren't trying to be some high-tech institution. We are just a local school at this address, doing what we can for the kids in Nokha. It’s a steady kind of life, and we like the routine of it all.
