You will find Dhara Public School out on Udasar Road in Rajnagar. Bikaner is a place where you always have to deal with the sand, and our school is no exception. We spend a lot of time dusting off the desks and sweeping the front porch. The building is a simple structure that stands out against the flat land around it. We have several classrooms that are usually quite full. The benches are made of wood and metal, and they make a lot of noise when the kids move them around. We don't have any big flashy signs or expensive decorations. Most of the color comes from the students' drawings that we pin up on the softboards. The water cooler is the most popular spot during the hot months, and there’s usually a small line of kids waiting there with their plastic bottles. Our teachers come from the local area, so they understand what it’s like living here. We have a routine that hasn't changed much over the years. We start with a prayer, go through the subjects, and then everyone heads home for lunch. It’s a very grounded way of doing things. We don't have a lot of rules about how things should look, as long as the learning is happening and the students are safe. It’s a quiet life here on the edge of the city. We keep a few trees in the back that need constant attention, but they provide a nice spot for the staff to sit.
