People always ask where exactly we are on Hawa Mahal Road because the traffic near Imami Gate is usually quite heavy. It is a bit easier if you just look for Mahmood Khan Masjid, we are right behind that. The shop has been here for some time now. It’s nothing fancy, just some old chairs and big mirrors that have seen many faces over the years. You can hear the sounds of the street all day, the honking and people talking outside. Usually, the morning is slow, so we sit and read the paper or talk about whatever is happening in Bhopal. When the crowd starts coming in later, it gets busy with people wanting a quick trim or a shave. We don't have those expensive machines, just our old scissors and combs that work fine. Sometimes the power goes out and we have to open the doors wide for some light. It’s a simple life here. Most customers are regulars who live nearby and they just come in to chat as much as they do for a haircut. You might have to wait a bit on Sundays since everyone is off work then. We just keep things moving at our own pace. It is just a local spot for a basic cut, and that’s how it has always been for us. I guess we are just part of the old city vibe now.
