This shop, New Muskan Gents Beauty Parlour, is located on the Main Road in Bairagarh, Bhopal. Being on the main road means there is never any silence. You have cars, buses, and bikes honking all day long. I opened this place here in the 462030 area because I wanted to be where the people are. It’s a straightforward gents parlour. We have the big chairs that lean back for shaves and the mirrors that cover almost the whole wall. I spend my days standing on the tiled floor, moving from one customer to the next. In Bhopal, people take their appearance seriously, so I stay busy. I have a couple of guys who help me out when the shop gets full in the evenings. We keep the towels clean and the razors sharp. There’s no fancy lobby or waiting room, just a few plastic chairs for people to sit on while they wait their turn. We talk about the local news or the traffic on the main road. Sometimes someone brings in a newspaper and we all discuss the headlines. It’s a very normal, local business. We don't do any big advertising; people just see the sign while they’re walking or driving by and stop in. It's been a good way to make a living and get to know the men in this part of town. We keep it simple and stay focused on the work at hand.
