The Abaya Boutique

Our shop is right in the middle of R.T. Nagar. It isn't a very large place so it feels a bit cramped when we get more than three customers at once. We have racks of abayas lined up along the walls and mirrors tucked into the corners. Most of the day is spent talking to ladies about fabric and how things fit. We get a lot of sunlight through the front window which makes the black fabric look different depending on the time of day. We do some alterations in the back where the sewing machine sits. It is usually a bit messy back there with scraps of cloth on the floor and pins everywhere. We don't have a big staff, just a couple of us who know the regulars by name. People stop by just to chat sometimes or to see if we got any new styles in. It is a local business and we don't try to act like a big brand. We just want the clothes to look decent and the price to be fair. Sometimes the doorbell breaks and we have to rely on hearing people walk in. R.T. Nagar is a lively spot and we enjoy being part of the noise and the community. We don't do much online because we prefer seeing people face to face. It feels more real that way.
