The Chancery

The Chancery sits right on Lavelle Road, which is one of those parts of Bangalore that never really stops moving. Being at 10/6, we are right in the thick of things. It’s a hotel, but for those of us working here, it’s more like a second home where we are constantly fixing something or greeting someone new. The building has its own character, having been around for a good bit of time. It’s not one of those glass towers that looks like every other city; it has a bit of history to it. On any given morning, the lobby is full of people checking out or heading to the dining room for breakfast. We spend a lot of time making sure the rooms are actually comfortable and the staff knows what they are doing. It can get pretty hectic when there is a big event or if the city traffic outside is worse than usual, which happens a lot on Lavelle Road. We try to keep a calm atmosphere inside despite the noise from the street. It’s mostly about the small stuff, like making sure the linens are clean and the coffee is hot. We don’t have a big corporate speech to give. We just show up, manage the desk, and help travelers find their way around the local area. It’s a solid place to work and stay, grounded in the reality of busy city life and the constant flow of people through our doors.
