Swayam Boutique

You can find us in the Jaihind Press Building, right near the Mithakali Underbridge on Ashram Road. It is a very busy spot and sometimes the noise from the traffic underneath the bridge is quite loud. Inside the boutique, we have racks of clothes and rolls of fabric everywhere. There is always the sound of a sewing machine running in the back room where the tailors sit. We started this because we liked working with different colors and patterns. Most days, we are busy measuring people or helping them pick out a specific shade of silk or cotton. The lighting in here isn't the best, so we often take the fabric out to the front door to see what it really looks like in the sun. We have a few mirrors leaning against the walls and some stools for people to sit on while they wait. It gets a bit cluttered with thread and scraps of cloth on the floor by the end of the day. We try to keep things organized, but when three or four people come in at once, it becomes a bit of a mess. My sister helps with the orders and I do most of the talking to the customers. We don't have a big sign outside, just enough for people to know we are here. It’s a small space but we make it work. Most of our regulars live nearby and just drop in to see what’s new.
