Niranjan Silk Palace

We have been here at 536 Avenue Road for quite a while now. If you know this part of the city, you know how busy it gets with all the people and traffic outside. Inside the shop, it is mostly just shelves filled with silk rolls and stacks of sarees that we move around all day. It gets a bit cramped when we have a few people in at once, but that is just how it is on this road. My father started things off and now we just keep it going, making sure the inventory is right and talking to the regulars who stop by. We don't have fancy displays or anything like that. It is more about just knowing where everything is kept in the back rooms. Sometimes the lighting is a bit dim because of the old wiring, but we manage. Most days are spent unfolding fabrics for people to see and then folding them back up again neatly, which takes a lot of time. The tea stall nearby brings us cups throughout the afternoon while we work through the orders. It is a simple place where we focus on the work at hand without much fuss. We’ve seen the street change a lot over the years, but our spot remains pretty much the same as it was when we first opened the doors to the neighborhood.
