Siddeshwar College

You have to head out to Hadgal Road in Ittigi to find Siddeshwar College. It’s located in the Bellary district, which means we get a lot of that red dust and plenty of heat throughout the year. The college is a bit of a landmark in this small area. It’s a plain building, built to be sturdy rather than pretty. Most of the students come from the nearby farms and small houses around Ittigi. They arrive on foot or on old scooters, and the parking area is usually just a patch of cleared ground. The classrooms are basic, with long rows of benches and large windows to help with the air. It’s a quiet place for the most part, except when the students are moving between their lectures. We have a small staff who handle everything from the library to the office work. There isn’t much around the college except for some open land and a few trees that provide a little bit of shade during the hottest parts of the afternoon. We spend our days going through the curriculum and helping the students prepare for their exams. It’s a lot of hard work for everyone involved. The electricity goes out once in a while, so we just carry on without the lights until it comes back. It’s just how things work out here. We’re just a local college trying to give people a place to study near home.
