Kls Public School is found at No. 121 in Peeranwadi, which is on the outskirts of Belgaum. Since we are a bit away from the main city center, it’s a little quieter here, though the road can still get some traffic. The weather in Belgaum is usually nicer than in the northern parts of the state, so we don’t sweat as much in the classrooms. The school building itself is a solid, functional place with several wings for different grades. We have a gatekeeper who stays at the entrance and knows most of the parents by sight. The staff room is always a bit of a mess with tea cups and open textbooks. We don’t go in for anything too flashy; the walls have some charts made by the students and that’s about it. In the mornings, the buses pull up and drop off children from all over the Peeranwadi area. We spend the first part of the day getting everyone settled into their seats. The playground is a decent size, and the kids spend their break time playing football or just running around. We have a few cupboards full of old trophies and science equipment that we use when needed. It’s just a standard school life here, where we focus on the syllabus and make sure the kids are behaving themselves. We go home when the sun starts to go down, leaving the building quiet until the next morning.
